About Us

Sea Kayaking South West was set up in 2006, since then the company has grown with the demand for our sea kayaking adventures. Based in North Devon, our trips and courses are run along the stunning South West Coastline. We also run expeditions to Lundy Island, Isles of Scilly, Scotland and beyond…..We keep our groups small, allowing you to have special experiences and unforgettable wildlife encounters. We are passionate about what we do and take every step to minimize our impact upon the beautiful environment around us.

Rob McIntyre

I was born in the East End of London and had my first kayaking experiences on the near by River Thames, and I was hooked! With my love of the outdoors firmly in place, I have been lucky enough to have climbed, biked and paddled around the world with expeditions to South America, Canada, West Coast of Scotland and the Alps. I have been instructing in the outdoors for nearly 20 years now, and have gained a wealth of experience and qualifications working all over the UK. I hold the highest Sea Leader award and am also a BCU Canoe & Kayak Coach. In recent years I have been volunteering my time with the Scout Association, assessing their instructors. When I’m not on the water, I can be found riding my bike or drinking good coffee with my mates.

Anita McIntyre

Anita moved to North Devon in 1998 because of her love of the sea. She is a qualified yoga teacher and has a great love of the outdoors. There is nothing she enjoys more than being on the beach with the children and / or dogs, and being in the sea whether it is swimming, surfing or paddling.

As SKSW has grown so fast over the past few years, Anita is now taking on the role of office administration and bookings and looking forward to doing lots more paddling!

Kids & Dogs

Fern, aged 5 is very creative and loves the beach and all of its treasures. Lola, aged 2 is fearless and undeniably cute. They enjoy running around, building sand castles and messing up the office.

Rosie and Hobbes are our friendly dogs and office companions. They can usually be found sleeping in the sun or by the fire after a run on their favourite beach.

Other Guides

Rhoda Daniels

I started sea kayaking some years ago as a way of ‘getting away from it all’. Before my husband became a vicar I was a GP with a partnership in Swindon. Much to my own surprise – not being a surf Goddess type – I found the combination of being outside in such a wonderful environment, the company, exercise and adventure provided by various aspects of sea kayaking were incomparable with any other sport or hobby I have tried. I have been running the sea kayaking at Bath Canoe Club for the last few years, am working towards my 5* leader award, and making my way up the British Canoe Union coaching ladder. Rob Mcintyre has been my coaching mentor for many years now hence me joining in with many of his courses and expeditions. If I can help someone have even half as much fun sea kayaking as I do, it will have been a good day.

Pete Richardson

I started kayaking whilst serving in the Army. I competed in surf, down river racing, sprint and marathon and slalom competitions. I have taken part in many expeditions around the world climbing and paddling. I also have a keen interest in bushcraft and wood turning.

Gethin Jones

I took up Kayaking at the age of 24 when I moved from North Wales to North Devon. After attending a few courses and joining Bideford Canoe Club I decided to venture down the route of personal BCU qualifications. I am currently a BCU level 3 Coach in Surf Kayak, Sea Kayak and Inland Kayak and I am working towards my 5 star BCU award in each discipline. Hopefully after gaining these qualifications this will enable me to organise, lead and run more advanced trips and expeditions.

My passion within Kayaking is expeditions and I have lead groups ranging from the Armed Forces to youth and school groups. I hold an enhanced CRB certificate and I have recently gained a certificate in teaching in the life long learning sector and am now studying towards the Diploma. During my time coaching and guiding I have organised and lead a number of trips to countries such as Norway, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Central America as well as trips all over the UK. Although I have been lucky enough to paddle in some stunning countries around the world I have to admit that Devon is still up there with the best of them. Great paddling, great people, great cider! See you on the water.
