Pre requisite – Paddlepower Start or similar standard

The BCU 1 Star Award is where you master some basic skills in kayak and canoe. You will develop skills such as Launching and landing, forwards paddling and turning and looking at equipment & safety.

BCU 2 Star: 2 Days £160

Pre requisite – BCU 1 Star or similar standard

This 2 day course will be practical and involve some basic theory. From your experience gained on an introductory course or BCU 1 Star, you will have the opportunity to master the kayak and canoe skills needed to progress to BCU 3 Star and beyond.

BCU 3 Star Sea Training: 2 Days £160

Pre requisite – BCU 2 Star or similar standard

BCU 3 Star is a pre requisite for UKCC/BCU Level 2 Coach Training. Successful candidates will be considered a competent performer in sheltered to moderate water environments and have the ability to paddle unsupervised, with similar standard paddlers on sheltered water.

This 2 day training course will be practical, consolidating some 2 Star skills and concentrating on the sea specific techniques required to take your paddling to the dynamic environment of the sea.

BCU 3 Star Sea Assessment: 1 Day £80 + Reg Fee

Pre requisite – BCU 3 Star Sea Training

The 1 day assessment will be a journey along the coast of around about 6-8 nautical miles. Candidates will be expected to perform the 3 Star Syllabus to a high standard.

BCU 4 Star Sea Leader Training: 2 Days £160

Pre requisite – BCU 3 Star Sea or Old 4 Star Sea

For sea kayakers who wish to learn the skills necessary to lead a group of competent paddlers in coastal waters. This 2 day course will focus on personal skills and leadership in moderate tidal water environment.

Candidates will be given a detailed action plan for assessment.

BCU 4 Star Sea Leader Assessment: 2 Days £180 + Reg Fee

Pre requisite – BCU 4 Star Sea Training & LR Form

For sea kayakers who wish to be assessed in the skills necessary to lead a group of competent paddlers in coastal waters. This 2 day assessment will include leading ‘real’ students, navigation and incident management in moderate tidal water environment with sea state force 4.

Coastal Navigation & Tidal Planning: 1 Day £60

This course is one of the pre requisits for the BCU 4 Star Sea Leader. The CNTP is a theory course for those paddlers who require the skills to plan and navigate in coastal waters. The course will focus on maps & charts, weather, tides and trip planning.

Foundation Safety & Rescue: 1 Day £80

The 1 day Foundation Safety & Rescue Course is a pre requisite for UKCC/BCU Level 2 Coach Training. This course will focus on the introduction of the core skill of rescues, using simple and safe techniques such as throw line, tow low line and deep water rescues. The course will utilize both kayak and canoe.
