Kayaking To Lundy Island

A safe and enjoyable crossing to Lundy is dependant upon weather conditions and minimal swell. For this reason we do not have fixed dates for our Lundy Crossings. Names will be placed on a list and when conditions are looking suitable we will contact you a few days in advance to see if you are able to join us. We aim to make several crossings throughout the year and hope to accommodate everyone that is committed to this great adventure. We will camp overnight on Lundy, with the option of a return paddle the following day or returning by ferry.
The Crossing
We aim to depart from Lee Bay or Ilfracombe within an hour of high water to take advantage of the ebb tidal stream. The crossing usually takes around 4 to 5 hours of constant paddling, with a short ‘snack’ break every hour.
What experience is needed?
This sea kayaking challenge is for experienced paddlers only. It is not necessary to hold a BCU Personal Paddling Award, but you will have to prove to us that you’re an experienced sea kayaker. If you feel you don’t have the right experience, Sea Kayaking South West can help.
We can offer the training necessary, giving you the opportunity to join us on an adventure to Lundy. we could also help with a training programme for you to complete before taking on the challenge of a Lundy Crossing.
If you are interested in joining us for a crossing please Contact Us to discuss this further. We can also advise you on a training programme.
