Sea Kayaking Trips To Lundy Island
Lundy lies in the Bristol Channel around 25 miles paddle from Ilfracombe. It is three miles long, a 400 foot granite outcrop with tremendous views of sea and mainland. Its cliffs and hanging valleys are rich in wildlife and wildflowers. Lundy was taken on by the National Trust in 1969, when the Landmark Trust agreed to run the island and restore its buildings. Lundy is one of England’s very few marine nature reserves and Sea Kayaking South West are proud to have the full consent of the Island’s wardens and The Landmark Trust to provide sea kayaking trips and adventures to and around this wonderful place. Come and join us on a wildlife safari by sea kayak. As we paddle along the coast of Lundy we may encounter the resident seals and even a basking shark. In the breeding season Lundy is home to the largest seabird colony in southern England with species such as razorbill, guillemot and kittiwake. You may be lucky enough to spot a puffin, the bird that gives the island it's name, 'lund-ey' is Norse for puffin island.
Although so close, Lundy is a world apart. It offers the pleasures both of pure escape and of participation in the island community: walks high amid the breezes and wheeling seabirds, looking out across the sea to the Devon and Welsh coasts or across the wide Atlantic, and sociable visits to tavern and shop. Everyone has free run of the whole island and Sea Kayaking South West allows access to the island coast and wildlife in an unparalleled way. Our guides can also provide guided walks, information on the wildlife and snorkeling trips.
All those who experience the light and natural beauty of Lundy leave with something in common which they treasure. Many return again and again.
Getting to Lundy
Most people leave their car on the mainland and cross to the island on the handsome supply ship the MS Oldenburg.
