West Coast of Scotland: Sound of Arisaig

The west coast of Scotland has to be high on anyone’s list of places to sea kayak. Beautiful coral beaches, deserted islands, forest clad lochs dotted with crumbling castles, and close encounters with wildlife such as seals, otters, basking shark and puffins.

Sea Kayaking South West can arrange camping trips for groups of 4 or more people on dates to suit you. All kayaking equipment, guides, instruction and camping equipment (except sleeping bags) can be provided. Bed and breakfast accommodation can also be arranged. Please contact us for more details. If you wish to bring your own sea kayak to Scotland please let us know as we can arrange this.

Sound of Arisaig Expedition: 7 Days - £600

Dates: Saturday-Saturday 19-26th May 2012

Accommodation Based Tour at The Glenuig Inn, Sound of Arisaig.

Sea Kayaking South West is offering an accommodation based expedition to the Sound of Arisaig. Throughout your stay two Sea Kayaking South West guides will be available with fully equipped sea kayaks to take groups out for wildlife safaris, sight seeing, picnics, and even crossings to off shore islands if skills and weather allow. Each morning we will meet to discuss the day’s trip which will be tailored according to the weather, ability levels and requirements. On a week long trip we suggest one non paddling day to rest, enjoy a walk or a boat trip to one of the nearby Small Islands.

The Sound of Arisaig is renowned for being one of the best sea kayaking locations in the UK, with everything from sheltered lochs such as Loch Moidart with it's famous castle to the off shore islands of Rum, Muck, Canna and Eigg. This group of islands known as The Small Isles, are within a days paddle from our accommodation. Paddling to the Small Isles will involve a night of camping on one of the islands which will allow time to explore and rest before returning to our accommodation either by kayak or ferry.

Accommodation

Accommodation will be provided at The Glenuig Inn on The Sound of Arisaig, West Coast of Scotland. The Inn provides huge breakfasts (included in the price) as well as packed lunches and evening meals if required (additional charges). Steve, the proprietor is a keen sea kayaker and does all he can to ensure we have a good stay. Sea kayaks can be launched into the sheltered loch just yards from the Inn. There is a tiny local shop but supplies are best brought with you.

We will have use of en-suite rooms with twin and bunk beds. Bedding and towels are provided but please bring beach towels. There is a drying room for kit storage overnight.

What experience is needed?

All abilities can be catered for but you will get most out of this tour if you have been in a kayak a few times before and are confident on the water. Maybe you’d like to do one of our Introduction to Sea Kayaking Courses prior to the trip. Double sea kayaks can be provided for less confident paddlers if requested in advance.
